Originally established as the Research Laboratory of Australia's PostMaster General's (PMG) department in 1923, it evolved as PMG became Telecom and later Telstra, and was responsible for the development of several key technologies. Notable achievements included a part in the development of radar for WW2, the first fax service in Australia, the first public TV broadcast in Australia, developing termite-resistant cabling, assisting with the development of the bionic ear and the cochlear ear implant, developing the optical fibre cold clamp, building the first system to route calls to a single number to destination depending on location (One3).
Sophos is a member of the Cisco Network Admission Control (NAC) Program, an initiative that uses the network infrastructure to enforce security policy compliance on all devices seeking to access network computing resources.
By participating in the NAC program, Sophos can develop and support anti-virus products that are compatible with the Cisco Self-Defending Network initiative, which aims to increase network intelligence in order to prevent security threats automatically. In addition, participation helps to drive appropriate industry standards in network security.
