Firstwave Redundancy

Having a mail service that is always available is a critical requirement for most customers. That’s why it is really important that your mail service provider has designed their service from the start to be fully redundant.

Any mail service is only as reliable as its weakest link. So, when we talk about redundancy it is important to consider every layer. At Firstwave, network resilience is a passion. Here’s what levels of redundancy we have for all of our different layers:

What happens when things go wrong?

Email has become as critical as a phone so obviously this is a serious issue.

In the highly unlikely case of a Firstwave service disruption then sending mail servers will queue their mail and try resending to us (typically every hour). You will not lose mail.

Most people ask us about our redundancy, and this is something that we are passionate about. However, what customers often don’t ask is what happens when things go wrong in their infrastructure? For example, a telecommunications outage or server crash.

If you have an outage then our mail infrastructure will queue mail for your servers until they come back online. At Firstwave we offer the following business continuity options:

  • Webmail so that you can continue your business whilst your server is offline
  • SMS alerting to your system administrator – we’ll proactively tell you when your server goes offline
  • Replay functionality so that you can replay any messages you may have lost
